Community-acquired pneumonia in children: what to do when there is no response to standard empirical treatment?

This case highlights a stepwise approach to managing patients who do not respond to standard therapy. Current international guidelines recommend empiric antibiotic treatment for the first 48hrs; however, there are no published guidelines on managing cases that do not respond.
